UV Protection
To be truly effective and beneficial for skin, sunscreens must protect skin from both the sun's UVA and UVB radiation. While UVA radiation does not produce any visible short-term evidence of skin damage, it creates serious cumulative changes in skin such as inflammation, abnormal cell production, thickening of the stratum corneum (outer layer of skin), depletion of immune-stimulating cells, and evidence of the possibility of elastin deterioration. UVB radiation causes sunburn. The SPF in a sunscreen describes how long the skin will take to burn when wearing the SPF i.e. SPF 15 means it will take 15 times longer to get a sunburn.
